Botallack Mine
Botallack Mines, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, are located on the ‘Tin Coast’ at St Just. The mines and Engine Houses of Owles and Crowns provided the very dramatic coastal setting for the scenes involving Wheal Leisure, which Ross Poldark owned and worked in for series one and which George Warleggan became a controlling shareholder of in series two. West Wheale Owles was also the filming location to represent the mine Ross opened in the second series, Wheal Grace, which although became profitable for Ross Poldark and the local mining community at the end of series two, it was also the location where Francis Poldark unfortunately met his death by drowning.
